ABC minus XYZ

As the day came to a close, the sun began to sink. Blended purples and pinks and oranges color-washed the sky. Copper glow lined the fireball as it slipped into the sea. Deep blue hues returned to the water with the absence of the sun. Elizabeth strolled along the water line, pants rolled up and sandals looped through her fingers and slung over her shoulder. Feeling contemplative, she continued down the beach as the sky's pinks and purples turned to gradually darkening blues.  Glancing up in delight, she recognized the constellations. Her favorite was the belt of Orion. It seemed wherever she was, whenever it was, if she turned her eyes on the nighttime sky orion was always with her. Just the way the mariners relied on the North Star, she had come to rely on Orion for guidance. Kicking away the shells, and enjoying the sand between her toes, Elizabeth shook out her blanket and sat down. Leaning back with her feet still in the sand, she balled up her sweatshirt and put it behind her head. Moments of clarity often came to her when she was alone on the beach with Orion. Nothing worried her. On her mind, only dreams for the future. People just don't understand me she thought. Quietly, she read her diary aloud. Really she was reading to Orion, she just didn't want anyone walking by to think she was nuts. Some day I'm going to make my mark on this world. Today, I'll sit here and write for you. Under the stars Elizabeth always felt special, like anything could happen. Vivid descriptions and one of a kind characters; she wrote poems and stories. Writing took her mind off her inability to make sense of the world.
