Found Poem

This is a strange found poem I wrote this evening. I did a lot of driving by myself this week, and that always leads to lyrical thoughtfulness as the songs run through on my iPod. For some reason, these three completely different songs stuck with me today so I decided to blend some of the lines from them into one poem. See if you can follow me on this short journey. I'm curious what you take from it, because it came together in pieces for me, just like trying to retell a disjointed dream to your friend or spouse when you wake up the next morning. See song credits at the end.

A Million Suns*

Can't see the sky, nothing's on the horizon
Gone and lost my patience with this hopeless situation,
Don't know where I'm going I just keep on rowing
Pushing on, isn’t that what I’m supposed to do?

The voices of the underground
Cold, shocked and speechless, can’t anybody reach us
The role we play is so important
But it’s so hard to keep pushing on.

Moving is breathing and breathing is life
my heart inside me pounding, muddy water all around me.
Just hold it back and keep moving on.
Stopping is dying

Can't fall asleep because I wake up dead
A million suns that shine upon me
I’m alive, I’m a lonely sole survivor.
And why, oh G-d, why?

Another chance to turn it all around
You'll be alright
Speak louder than the words before you

Embrace the past and you can live for now
